Book Review: The Goose Girl

The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1) The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is fantasy writing at its best! I enjoyed the story very much and was totally drawn into it. The "moral of the story" was really well-done too, without being overly saccharine and obvious. I wish I'd read this years ago when I first heard about the book. Now I'm looking forward to reading the other two books in the series. I bought the second one at Barnes & Noble yesterday and have added it to my too-high stack of books to read.

I'm glad you liked it.. it's one of my favorite books. There are actually 3 sequels. The 4th book just came out last September. I liked Enna Burning and River Secrets but I loved Forest Born (the 4th one) the most of the three.
Have you read her other books?
I have all of them but my other favorites are The Book of a Thousand Days and Princess Academy.

I used to go to Shannon Hale's blog. She defended Stephenie Meyer on a post.. and I commented to her.

She's a really nice girl.. and I like her novels. Princess Academy is also good.. and I liked Austenland. It was an easy read as well.

Glad you liked it!

Cool, I didn't know there was a fourth book! The only other book of hers I've read is Austenland. I have Princess Academy and hope to read it sometime soon. I'll get The Book of a Thousand Days too since you say that it's really good.
She's an impressive author!

I’m not surprised you were taken in – the girl on the cover looks like she could be your little sister. It’s good to see you back to reading and reviewing.
