Little Bits of Randomness

Mommy's Idea

I've seen other people do these "Friday Fragments" for awhile and I think they're fun to read, so I'm trying it out for the first time today. Those random little things from the week that don't make the cut to get their own blog post get to see the light of day here. Lucky them!

*I've never really had a problem with allergies of any kind until this past week when out of nowhere I got hammered by them. Something's in the air in this part of the country that my body is not taking a liking to. Thankfully it's starting to get better after a week of sneezing, dry eyes, a sore nose and throat, and generally feeling like crap.

*Today a few miles from my house a whole lot of people are going to attempt to break the Guiness world record for the most people doing the Hokey-Pokey at the same time. It may be a little hokey (ha ha), but I think it's cute and I hope they succeed!

*There's this lamppost in our front yard that hadn't worked since we'd moved in a month ago, so I thought it just needed a new bulb. Well, somehow the light turned on this week, and it hasn't turned off since. We can't find a switch for it anywhere and I can't figure out how it got turned on in the first place. So this lamppost has been lit up for the past two days and nights! We're going to call the previous owners and get to the bottom of this little mystery.

*And on the opposite side...a few days ago I set my netbook up for the first time since moving here. It was working fine for a few hours, and then suddenly it shut down. And it hasn't turned back on since. What the heck?

*After school yesterday John and I made homemade play-dough, and for the first time ever, it actually worked! The recipe was super-easy and fun, and seriously, it's even better than the real stuff.

*In Connecticut we'd sometimes get mice in our garage. In Iowa we get toads. Mice paralyze me in my tracks; I'll take the toads.

*I want to change my blog so that the text stretches across more of the left side of the screen instead of being made into these blocky paragraphs in the middle. Can anyone tell me how to do that or where there are instructions online? I haven't been able to figure it out and I'm so afraid of messing up my blog or deleting it!
(As you can see, I figured it out!)

So those are some of my fragments from the week. Check out Half Past Kissin' Time if you'd like to share your own.

Happy Friday!

I changed the template and got the text to stretch more. I'm proud of myself!

Love the template!

Seasonal allergies are the worst. I didn't develop them until a couple of years ago, and I just thought I had a really bad cold.

Donna said...

Thanks Kristina! I can't tell you how pleased with myself I am right now!

I wondered at first if it was a cold too, but it soon became apparent that it was allergies. I think I'd rather have a cold!

So, when is half past kissing time? I just think I should know these things...

Good question! Wish I had an answer.

Half past kissing time,
Time to kiss again.

That's a midwestern expression that Mrs. 4444 quotes her mom saying to them when they were growing up.

Visiting you from her blog hop on Friday Fragment day. You're doing a nice job.

Yay! Welcome to Friday Fragments! I am so happy that you found my blog, too, and how weird that we both mentioned mice in our posts today!
Your new house is gorgeous! I am assuming it had something to do with work that landed you in Iowa.
Your whole family is very cute! Can't wait to read more about your Iowa adventures! I will keep you posted on the hurricane and what happens on the Cape! :)

Donna said...

Yes, we moved to Iowa because my husband started a new job with a new company here in the spring.
I'm so glad to have a new blog-friend on the Cape!
And I'm so glad someone wants to hear about our adventures in Iowa! It's a nice place!

Thanks Ann! :)

I think I know the answer to your light and computer mystery...your house is haunted! Call TAPS! ;)

As for the mouse thing -- we've never had mice in our CT home in the summer. They only come in the winter. So, you should still keep your fingers crossed that they won't show up to your Iowa home this winter.

Donna said...

That would be neat if it were haunted...I wish! I'd definitely call TAPS and use our RI/Grant connection to help persuade them to come investigate.

I'm hoping that we won't have to deal with mice this winter. I am soooo tired of mice! The previous owners said they never really had a problem with mice in the house, so I'm pinning my hopes on that!

Allergies are THE WORST! I have a house full of allergy ridden individuals.

I never understood all the hype behind high thread count sheets...until I bought some for myself. They are worth it (as you obviously have already figured out).

P.S. I love the new template!

Donna said...

Thank you Danielle! And I agree, the sheets are definitely worth it!

Nice job on the template change! It's looks very nice in here :)

We've got the toads like crazy here, too! Those, and spiders...

That lamp post thing is really odd, as is the netbook issue. Maybe your house is haunted?JK
