Boys vs. Girls

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not pregnant, and I don't expect to be anytime soon. But the other day I was in the extra bedroom in our house and I was thinking about what a cute nursery it would make, and John was in there with me. Envisioning paint colors and crib bedding and wall hangings, I asked him if he'd rather have a baby sister or another baby brother. He answered that he'd want a brother.

"Why?" I asked. "What's wrong with girls?"

"Mom! Girls are just pretty and fancy! Boys are fun!"

Which made me laugh, because he's right about both of those things. But of course he's missing the fact that girls are fun too, sometimes simply because they are pretty and fancy. Now I kind of hope that our third child, whenever it makes its way into our family, will be a girl so that he can see how fun girls can be! (Although he does in fact already know this--some of his favorite friends are girls. Hypocrite!)

There is a ton more out there in the way of decor and clothing for girls. But there is some pretty cool boy stuff out there now.

Boys clothes and decorations get left in the dust by girls things, although it has gotten a little better in some places recently. It's a pet peeve of mine though. If girls wore ties, there would be whole shops dedicated to that, but meanwhile, I can only find decent ties for my boys around holiday times (and even then they fall apart easily!). Aargh!

Let's hear for the girls and boys! I'm lucky to have one of each but don't call my girl fancy. Your son should see her on the soccer field. My son is skipping sports this term to act in a play and they'll make him don make up and a costume. Gender stereotypes are just that. Every child is different. I'm happy to hear your son has girl friends too. My husband is my best friend and he's a boy, right?

Sorry to be so late to visit. I've been bogged down with work and start of school stuff.

That's funny. Abi is the same way about boys. She will say things about boys and not ever wanting a brother and I have to remind her that her very first best friend she ever had was a boy and of all the boys that are her friends.

You would have such a lovely little blonde baby girl:)I think a girl would just be so fun to dress!

That's so cute! But he has his fun mom! My girls are definitely fun, but much more drama than the boys. :)

I want another niece. Jen did her part already and Liz is currently ocupado, so... get on it Donna! :) Miss you guys. Tell John that Justin bought Rocco a baseball set, so next time he comes over here we can get a game going.
