It felt good to turn 45. I like the number; it's a nice, solid one. I'm now halfway done with my 40s—how did that happen?! Now that I have a fiancé who's quite a bit older than me, I don't care about my age or getting older. In fact, I welcome it!
My birthday was a pleasant day, full of pleasant things, and spent with pleasant people. How very...pleasant! 😊
We went for a walk in the morning on the Atlantic White Cedar Swamp Trail in Wellfleet, one of my favorites. The walk along the dunes afterwards isn't as good as it used to be because they've roped off a lot of the land that used to be open for walking and exploring. But it was still nice.
Pictures in the swamp...
Then we walked up to the Marconi area over the water. The views are beautiful, I just wish we could walk out on the land above the sea more. But I know, erosion and all that.
Three generations in a row!
We celebrated with cake and presents in the early afternoon because Jennifer had to leave to go home right after an early dinner that evening. It was nice because we weren't full from dinner (since we hadn't eaten it yet), making more room for cake!
Unflattering pictures of me and the cake...
It was a pretty and delicious cake from Whole Foods.
In the afternoon, Mom, Jennifer, and I went to the antique store, where I bought a Nancy Drew book for my collection and took a walk down memory lane with toys from childhood...
I remember this Fisher-Price train and the animals in it!
David installed shelving for me in the basement closet. I love it! It will be so much easier to keep this closet organized now.
On our way to dinner, we stopped at the giant beech tree that's near the restaurant. David and Sam hadn't seen it before, and they were rightly impressed!
For scale...
He wasn't supposed to be climbing and soon got down. But this would be a really fun tree to climb!
The bench under the tree wished me a "Happy Birthday"!
We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Old Yarmouth Inn, one of my favorite restaurants on the Cape.
I got a Shirley Temple, creamy clam chowder, and very tasty lobster pasta.
After dinner, we stopped at another favorite spot, Gray's Boardwalk. It was a cloudy, cool evening, so no spectacular sunset. It was too early in the evening for that anyway. But we did get to see this funny bird that was sitting there with his head tucked into his body, fast asleep. I feel like that some days too. 😆
With three out of four of the people I love most!
It was a good birthday, and the first one in many years with a loving romantic partner. That was a great difference. I didn't have John, who I missed a lot, but the Lord provided another special guy, one with a very special place in my heart. He'll be with me for the rest of my birthdays (knock on wood! 😅).
I hope that 45 will be a good year in my life. The biggest thing that I think will happen is getting married! 😘
