My 39th Birthday

I'm happy to report that I enjoyed a very pleasant and fun 39th birthday with my mom and the boys.

Any birthday of mine isn't complete without roses! Elizabeth and her boys got these for me and they were beautiful.

The four of us--my mom, John, Sam, and I--spent the day together. We went out for breakfast at The Pancake Man. I LOVE their fresh-squeezed orange juice and their creamy hot chocolate, so that's what I got (with some eggs on the side 😉).

We did something new that I'd been wanting to do for years: we went on a seal cruise! And it was really fun! We used Monomoy Island Excursions out of Harwich and they were great.

There were a ton of seals on this sandbar out at sea a little ways. Most of them were just laying around, and a few were flopping in and out of the water. It was so cool to see them all!

Sunbathing seals

See the dark shapes of the seals swimming underwater?

You can see in this picture that we weren't that far out at sea.

A few of the seals actually had moss growing on them! I thought that was so funny. I felt bad for them that they get hunted by sharks, but I also realize that the surging seal population is what's attracting so many more sharks to the Cape. I think the seals need to be like China and enact a one-child policy. 😂

After seeing the seals, we sailed back down the coastline and saw some some pretty sights and harbors on the shores of Chatham and Harwich.

A parking lot for boats!

After the seal cruise we stopped in Chatham so that I could buy an overpriced but really nice little black leather fanny pack that I'd seen when Liz and I were there two weeks earlier. I know, I know--a fanny pack? But this one was cute and practical and classy. And besides, they're in again!
I'm sorry to disappoint you but I don't have a picture of the fanny pack. But look at these cute chocolate seals that were in the candy shop next door!

We went out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants on the Cape, the Old Yarmouth Inn. The boys were a little underdressed but my mom and I weren't and that's all that mattered. Ha!

I had a delicious filet mignon.

The waitress was really nice and took pictures of us after she brought me a special slice of chocolate cake with a candle in it.

Once we were home I was serenaded with a little ice cream cake (I love ice cream cake!) and I opened some presents.

It was a lovely day, and it was a good start to my last year in my thirties!

{P.S. Wait until you see what I have planned for my fortieth birthday 😱 this summer!! 🤞}
