A Day Without Makeup

Today is General Conference, so we get to enjoy the rare luxury of staying home all day. (We watch Conference on TV. I love the BYU Channel and satellite TV! I also love Conference. I never miss a session if I can help it.)

Anyway, since I'm going to be home and we're not expecting anyone to come over, today I'm taking a break from makeup, beauty products, and contact lenses. I think it's good for my skin, body, hair, and eyes to go without every once in awhile. They all need a break so they can get some fresh air and just breathe without products there. So after showering, I didn't put on my moisturizer, eye cream, or even deodorant (Sorry, TMI! I can get away with this, especially in cool weather, because I don't sweat very much). Then I detangled my wet hair and combed it out, got dressed, and I was done. I was ready in just a few minutes, for once. Normally it takes me about 20 minutes to get all dolled up after showering, but it's much faster with no moisturizers, makeup, hair products, and blowdrying. So the only things I'm using today are hand lotion and lip gloss, because I'd go crazy without them. And of course toothpaste and mouthwash because gross breath is just gross. I'm not willing to go that natural.

So even though I don't look my prettiest today, I feel comfortable with myself like this, which is nice. After all, it's the true me, physically. However, if the doorbell rings, I'll be up the stairs in a flash and hiding out in my bedroom! Only Peter and John get the distinct privilege of seeing me in this product-less state. So I guess maybe I'm not as comfortable as I could be. But that's okay with me!

Less is More baby! I think we all need to treat ourselve every now and then and do what we want to do for a change...because we can!

Sounds like my everyday life. I never wear makeup, I'm not against it or anything, I just never learned how to apply it.

I am doing the exact same thing today, but I am taking it one step further. I am not showering. I shower once a day at least, but today I am Mrs. nasty.

How do you go a day without contact lenses? Your sight must not be too bad. If I went without, every thing would be a complete blur. I wouldn't even be able to see the tv (or computer, in our case) to watch conference.

I go all natural every once in awhile, even when I have to do stuff outside the house. Amber had the privledge of seeing me sans make-up and hair product when I dropped Adam off at school the other day. I had been up until 4 o'clock in the morning with Adam and wasn't about to get ready to drop him off. Hopefully, Amber wasn't too scared by what she saw!

My eyesight is pretty bad, so I always wear glasses when my contacts aren't in. Otherwise my world would be a big blur.

You look good even without makeup on, Alyson!

Oh, I see. No pun intended. I can't wear glasses because I have one near-sighted eye and one far-sighted eye. If I were to wear glasses, it could do something bad to my eyes. I don't remember what, but I know my doctor said it wouldn't be good.

You are too kind! I think I look horrible with no make-up, though Russ loves it when I don't.

Donna looks great without make-up too. I never fully understand why you always think you need it.

Peter, I don't always think I need it. I didn't need it today! On other days it makes a nice difference, not a big one, but noticeable at least to me. It enhances and beautifies in a subtle attractive way (I hope). Nothin' wrong with that!

I think most women look better with less make-up, but like you I feel like I need something on my lips when I leave the house. I don't use anything else (unless I have a zit!) It looks like you have beautiful skin in your photo so let it shine.

I often wear my glasses while writing at my computer to give my eyes a rest. I do like contacts when I'm exercising or out in the world. It's nice that you gave yourself a real break.

Your husband sounds sweet.
