Baby Chicks and the Welcoming of Spring

April got off to an adorable and spring-like start when I worked in the Children's Room at the library one evening. The eggs that had been incubating had hatched over the weekend, and there were cute little baby chicks to behold!

There was only one yellow chick, and it was my favorite.
(I'm nothing if not traditional, classic, and predictable. πŸ˜„)

This fluffy grayish/black one was cute too. They were all cute!

I picked one up (the yellow one πŸ˜„) and took it out a few times to show the kids. The first time I did this, when I put him (or her) back into the box, I didn't do a very good job and the poor little thing dropped a few inches and chirped its outrage at my handling of it. πŸ˜… I was much more careful after that!

These black ones had bald necks because of the type of breed they were.

The chicks were gone the next time I worked up there a week later, which was disappointing. They had been growing quickly, and it was time for them to go to the farm. My friend Jak (who is the assistant director of the library) raises chickens, and the eggs came from her farm. And that's where they returned, only not as eggs, but as chicks! This experience with these adorable chicks was a fun way to welcome the beautiful month of April and the lovely season of spring. πŸ’›
