President-Elect Obama!

Alright, this is very likely going to be my last political post for awhile. (Please, dry your tears!) I just want to make two quick bullet points about the election of Barack Obama as our new president last night.

  • The United States is an amazing country to have elected a black president just a few decades after segregation and blatant, everyday racism were a normal part of life here, not to mention centuries of slavery before that. No matter where you stand politically, this is a very proud moment for our country, and it reinforces my gratitude to live in this great place and to be an American.
  • It's nice that there will be two cute young girls living in the White House now. I can just picture them running up and down the halls and livening things up. I like it when kids are in the White House; things just somehow seem better that way. (Not that it's ever happened in my lifetime; I believe the last time there were young kids living there was when JFK was president, right?) And I'm so glad the girls are getting a puppy! Obama said in his speech last night that they'd earned it, and they have!

Okay, that's it! I'm done!
